This is what we did today:

Partner Reading

Laptops – successfully accessed class accounts I made for Prodigy Math and Epic Books. (If your child previously had an account, we merged it with my class. More info about Prodigy and Epic soon. . .)

Math – marked Sequences homework and discussed

DPA

Music:  Played our ukuleles for the first time.

  • AMAZING! EVERYONE IN THE CLASS SHOWED SELF CONTROL AND SUCCESSFULLY FOLLOWED THEIR FIRST LESSON (how to hold it, how to strum, how to play the C chord).  Music this year is going to be awesome with this class!

2 ukulele inspiration videos I showed.

Jake Shimabukuro is considered by many to be the best ukulele player in the world.

And then. . . .a kid with crazy talent!

This is what we did today:

  • Math: increasing and decreasing  sequences (ex. what number is between 91, 97, 103 and then extend the sequence).
    • We’ve ordered new math workbooks this year (not JUMP). They haven’t arrived yet so we will do a variety of things until they do.
  • P.E. with Mrs. Cavanagh
  • Teacher Read Aloud: “No Talking” novel
  • Art: Puzzle piece and decorating writing notebooks
  • Chose ukuleles!
  • Mindfulness activity: Mindful listening – be silent and still for 1-2 minutes and tune in to all the sounds you hear in your environment.
  • Silent Reading
  • Board games

What we did today:

  • Library
  • Students planned the “fall write” that they will do tomorrow. (Ask your child to tell you their opinions about zoos, whether they think they are good or bad. That’s what we discussed today in preparation for writing about it tomorrow.) We looked at this video as part of our discussion:

 

  • Silent Reading
  • DPA
  • Math: Talked about how everyone is a Math Person!!!Practiced using times tables charts (to use as needed).

  • We watched this mindfulness video. (We’ll do a variety of mindfulness activities in this class.)

  • Science experiment (If you have an eyedropper/syringe, get your child to show you something cool they discovered this afternoon!)

Due dates:

  • Optional if you have: bring any magazines, stickers or photos that are okay to cut up to decorate writer’s notebook – TOMORROW
  • Meet the Staff BBQ order – DUE TOMORROW
  • Parent questionnaire – ASAP
  • Green Student verification form – ASAP

What we did today:

  • Got organized, learned more about classroom routines.
  • Silent Reading
  • Beginning of the year Spelling assessment. (Beginning next week, we will do Spelling and Grammar on alternate weeks. For both, words/concepts will be introduced on Monday and there will be a quiz on Friday.)
  • Art: worked on puzzle pieces
  • Teacher read aloud: “No Talking” novel.
  • First P.E.!
  • Tried logging into laptops with new school district passwords. Everyone was successful! (We will be using Office 365 a lot this year. More info later.)
  • Grade 3-5 Assembly

Coming home today:

  • Student verification form (green). Please look over and write in any corrections. Sign the back and return to school. (If there are no changes to make, you still need to sign it.)
  • Parent questionnaire (also downloadable below if your copy didn’t make it home). Please send back as soon as you have time to complete. Related: each student has a backpack pouch I purchased as part of their school supplies. It’s a great plan to use it for sending things to and from school.
  • Coupon book order form – see Mrs. Kasper’s email from last night for info. (And if you didn’t get her email, please check the green form to make sure your email on file with the office is current.)
  • Meet the Staff order form for BBQ on Sept. 22nd.
